It’s been reported that blog articles should be between 800 to 2000 words. Unless you are posting for a major magazine or writing an expose, it’s better to write blog articles with a length of 200 to 500 words. Why?
When was the last time that you read a lengthy blog article? The demands of our readers continue to evolve with the pace of the digital world. The average sentence is now 12 words, down from 23 words in the early 90s. Readers want valuable content that is delivered to them straight and fancy free.
If you need to communicate more, use pictures, video and/or audio to help deliver the message. There is a saying that a picture is worth 1000 words and a video is worth 1000 pictures. Add 1 photo to every article (don’t forget to optimize the photo with keywords for search engines).
If you have a lengthy article to publish, be sure to offer one picture per every 250 to 300 words to help readers get to the finish line. Otherwise, consider breaking your lengthy piece into parts or present your subject as a series that offers a deep dive investigation.
